FALAFEL + JAZZ: THEY'RE BETTA @ MEZZETTA

For 20 years, Mezzetta Restaurant has been serving mid-Toronto some of the best Middle Eastern food to be found. For many years, it's also hosted a Wednesday Jazz Series that has featured some of the best musicians around.

Ron is happy to be returning to Mezzetta with his trio on Wednesday April 13. Continuing his Blue Modules project beyond the normal sounds of jazz, Ron will offer up some new music, including the Jimi Hendrix tunes he's been exploring.

GLENN GOULD PRIZE JURY TIME

Ron is the Secretary of the Glenn Gould Foundation.

This month, the Ninth Glenn Gould Prize cycle will kick off with the convening of an amazing international Jury, including Stephen Fry, Atom Egoyan and Dadawa.

REACHING OUT THROUGH MUSIC

Through the universal language of music, Reaching Out Through Music provides musical and social opportunities for children in one of North America's most densely populated and ethnically diverse urban communities, St. Jamestown, in the heart of downtown Toronto. Ron sits on the Advisory Board of Reaching Out Through Music.

Ron is happy to be part of a Fundraising Concert & Silent Auction for Reaching Out Through Music on Saturday April 30 at 7:00pm. Also appearing: Quartetto Gelato, Patricia Parr and Kathleen Penny, Alejandro and Joaquin Valdepenas and of course, the Reaching Out Through Music Choir. The evening will be hosted by Bram Morrison ("Sharon, Lois and Bram"). It promises to be a memorable one.

Run by one of the leading Iyengar scholars and teachers, Mahyar Raz, the Iyengar Yoga School of Toronto is celebrating its 13th year. This concert is open to the public, and will be held in the beautiful 2nd floor studio at the School mid-town Toronto.

MAKING MUSIC WITH MEL


M E L M’rabet has earned international acclaim as a virtuoso on oud, guitar, saz, guembri, and percussion. Born to musician parents, and raised in Granada, Andalusia, Mel is also a composer and a brilliant singer, as you may know from his work on Daniela Nardi's The Rose Tattoo.

Ron is excited to be playing with Mel for the first time on Friday February, 25 2011, at the beautiful Gallery 345 in Toronto. The music will fuse genres from traditional Arabic-Andalusian to jazz and western forms including the blues. It will be a perfect musical alchemy.

The group will also include the brilliantly inventive Chris Gartner on bass, and percussion master Rick "Samba Squad" Lazar.

This will be an evening of adventurous, beautiful, exciting music, like nothing you've ever heard, in a gorgeous venue.

HELLO YOUNG CELLO!


On the classical music front, Ron has come across a great new talent he'd like others to know about.

Daniel Hass is only 14 years old, but is already a mature cello soloist. Originally from Israel, and now based in Toronto, Daniel will be giving a free recital at the Mazzoleni Concert Hall in Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music on Sunday February 27, 2011 at 7:30 PM.

Daniel will be performing Bach, Haydn, Tchaikowsky and Rachmaninoff. It's rare that one encounters such a gifted talent. This is a chance for us to enjoy his artistry as he emerges onto the scene. You will be hearing about this wonderful musician in the future.

Sunday February 27, 2011. 7:30 PM Mazzoleni Concert Hall in the Royal Conservatory of Music. Free admission.

Readers of RonDavisNews know that Ron is on the Advisory Board of The Jazz Performance and Education Centre (JPEC), whose goal is to create a first-class, multi-purpose facility to feature performances by top local, national and international jazz talent; educational programming in which fans of all ages can learn about jazz; recording facilities; and a Hall of Fame and Archives which will encompass and preserve Canada’s outstanding jazz heritage.

As part of an ongoing series, JPEC presents one of the living legends of jazz saxophonist Lee Konitz on Friday, February 11, 2011, 8 PM with the terrific Brian Dickinson Trio at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. Ron Davis Headlines Canadian Music Therapy Trust Benefit Concert

Ron has been asked to headline an evening of music with well-known Canadian musical colleagues DK Ibomeka and Andrew Cash at Toronto's fabled Hugh's Room, to benefit the Canadian Music Therapy Trust (musictherapytrust.ca.)

The Centre promotes, develops, and supports music therapy in order to restore, maintain, and improve mental, physical, and emotional health. It provides ongoing funding for the promotion, development, and research of music therapy throughout Canada. It supports a wide range of music therapy services to communities across Canada.

Ron is proud to add the Canadian Music Therapy Trust to the causes he supports.
